Our Faculty has a short but dense history.
Founded in 1944 by Royal decree signed by H.R.H. King Mihai I, the West University of Timisoara began with a faculty of literature and philosophy, a faculty of science, a faculty of theology, a faculty of medicine and pharmacy and a faculty of law.
This structure was meant to allign the new university to the great univerisies in the world at that time. It may be said that Royal Decree no. 660/1944 is the birth act of the West University of Timisoara. Law-Decree no. 660, officializing the decision of the Council of Ministers no. 57/1944 for the establishment of the West University – the fourth university in the country after the ones in Bucharest, Cluj and Iasi – is promulgated in the fall of 1944, but the consolidation of the Faculty of Law as an institution of higher education wold occur later. The Faculty of Law was effectively established in 1922, as a specialization within the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Law, and became, since 1996, the Faculty of Law, West University of Timisoara.
The faculty was acredited in 2000, as a sign of recognition of the performances of both teachers and students, and since 2004 is hosting doctoral studies.
